Supporting Kids of All Abilities to be Unique and Achieve

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a doctors referral to see a Speech Pathologist or Occupational Therapist?
No referral is needed to see one of our speech pathologists or occupational therapists. You're welcome to contact us directly if you have any questions or concerns—we’re here to help and can guide you on whether your child might benefit from an assessment or therapy.
However, your child may be eligible for a Chronic Disease Management (CDM) Plan, also known as a GP Management Plan. This plan allows your child to access up to five Medicare-rebated therapy sessions (speech or occupational therapy) per calendar year. Please speak with your GP to see if your child qualifies for this program.
How Long Will My Child See a Speech Pathologist or Occupational Therapist?
Every child is unique, so the length of therapy will vary depending on their individual needs and goals. Your therapist will work closely with you to create a personalised plan and regularly review your child’s progress. We value open communication and will keep you informed and involved every step of the way to ensure the support remains relevant and effective.
How Long Are Therapy Sessions?
We offer both 45-minute and 60-minute sessions. Your child’s therapist will recommend the most suitable session length and frequency based on their individual needs, goals, and attention span. These recommendations are always discussed with you to ensure therapy is both effective and manageable for your family.
What Funding Options Are Available at Bambini Health?
At Bambini Health, we aim to make therapy as accessible as possible for families. We currently accept the following funding options:
1. Medicare – Chronic Disease Management Plan (CDM)
Also known as an Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) Plan, this referral is provided by your GP and allows eligible children to access up to 5 Medicare-rebated therapy sessions per calendar year across allied health services (e.g., speech pathology, occupational therapy). Speak to your GP to find out if your child qualifies for this plan.
2. Private Health Insurance
Families with extras cover that includes allied health may be able to claim a rebate for speech or occupational therapy sessions. Check with your private health fund to confirm your level of cover, any applicable gap fees, and annual limits.
3. National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)
We welcome children who are funded through the NDIS under the Self-Managed or Plan-Managed categories.

What Can I Expect When I Visit Bambini Health?
At Bambini Health, we pride ourselves on creating a warm, welcoming, and safe space where families feel heard, supported, and understood.
Your First Appointment
Your child’s first session will typically be an initial assessment. During this time, the therapist will:
-
Observe and engage with your child through play and structured tasks
-
Use a range of assessment tools tailored to your child’s age and developmental needs
-
Speak with you (and any caregivers) to understand your child’s history, strengths, challenges, and goals
Following the assessment, your therapist will:
-
Share their findings and discuss recommendations with you
-
Collaborate with other key people in your child’s life (e.g. preschool or school educators, other professionals)
-
Develop an individualised therapy plan with meaningful goals based on your child’s needs
Ongoing Therapy Sessions
If ongoing therapy is recommended, each session will be:
-
Play-based, goal-oriented, and tailored to your child’s unique interests and learning style
-
Filled with engaging games, hands-on activities, and evidence-informed strategies
-
A collaborative space where you can discuss progress, raise concerns, and explore practical strategies to use at home
We believe in family-centred care, so you’ll always be part of the process—whether it’s reviewing goals, adjusting strategies, or celebrating your child’s progress.
